The Domino Design Process

Dominoes, small rectangular blocks approximately thumbsize with four square faces divided by blank or marked surfaces resembling those found on dice, made up of 28 pieces arranged so as to look like dots resembling die dots, comprise a domino set. Games or activities played using such sets involve positioning one domino so it causes others to fall; as one falls, its chain can continue overlapping itself until one eventually overtops the next domino, until eventually all have collapsed together into an infinite chain that builds upwards as new dominoes pile on top of one another resulting in endless chains overlapping blocks forming an endless chain that builds into height as each successive domino falls onto its next counterpart; commonly known as dominoes, dom*i*noes, or tichela.

Dominoes feature numbers on each face called pips that range in size from two to six and may be colored black, white, or any combination thereof. A domino’s two faces are separated by a line which visually divides it into two equal squares; its value can be determined by adding up all its pips onto either face which are called its rank or weight – for instance a domino with seven pips on either face has double its value than one with three.

The value of dominoes also depends on their position in a domino set, such as where they fall along a line or pattern. For instance, being either first or last tile contributes more towards scoring overall than those closer in. Some games may even involve scoring all exposed ends simultaneously to win (known as scoring dominoes ).

Hevesh uses an engineering design process when installing her dominoes, beginning by considering a theme or purpose before brainstorming images that might go into it. She then applies similar CAD software techniques when thinking about domino components such as their shapes and colors for future installations.

Once this task is completed, she arranges them into an intricate design – taking her considerable time and effort – but when complete it reveals an astounding domino effect display.
