As Hong Kong temperatures heat up, one way we like to beat the heat is taking a dip at one of our favourite watering holes: hotel pools. While most public pools remain closed due to coronavirus restrictions, hotel swimming pools offer an inviting alternative. Although some day passes can cost hundreds of dollars – which will likely go towards drinks and food anyway – there are plenty of cost-friendly options out there that won’t break the bank.
No matter if it’s early morning laps in an indoor pool or late evening cocktails with sunset views – we have you covered. From luxurious hotel rooftops to relaxing seaside spots – here are Hongkong’s finest swimming spots for an invigorating swim.
Island Shangri-La
Nestled right in the bustling heart of Hong Kong is this outdoor pool offering unparalleled views of some of its iconic skyscrapers and its avenue of palm trees with umbrella-lined lounge chairs that make you feel like you’re on vacation! To truly take advantage of it all, book a room at this hotel to take full advantage of this pool – we suggest staying until after sundown so you can people watch while sipping a refreshing cocktail or two (and maybe even have a few drinks!).
Wong Chuk Hang Swimming Complex was designed to resemble a seashell, offering something for every type of swimmer. Lap swimmers will love taking advantage of its main pool or training/teaching pools; kids will love splashing around in one or both kiddie pools featuring playful water installations like mushroom or tree-shaped fountains.
The unique design of the pool helps improve ventilation, while materials used allow natural sunlight to filter in for an overall clean and refreshing atmosphere. Although open to non-hotel guests, weekends and holidays should be avoided in order to prevent crowding at this popular leisure spot.
Ma On Shan Swimming Pool, situated along Ma On Shan’s seafront and offering stunning views of Tolo Harbour. This spacious pool boasts facilities including main pool with spectator seating for 1,200, diving and training pools and an inflatable toddler’s pool equipped with water features such as mushroom and tree-shaped fountains.
With four waterslides and convenient accessibility from Exhibition Centre station of Sha Tin to Central Link and Choi Hung MTR station, Tin Shui Wai’s Fun Pool is an enjoyable destination for the whole family. Situated conveniently at Tin Shui Wai, its four waterslides make this pool great fun.
Only downside to this sprawling complex is its overcrowding on weekends and holidays, especially pool deck. If you can’t secure a spot there, try the adjacent water park, featuring more slides and lazy river. Just remember your Octupus card; it can be used at most public pools that charge an entrance fee as well as other facilities; these cards can be bought easily at convenience stores across Hong Kong – providing great savings!
